DCJS Celebrates a Decade of Singing!

Lift every voice and sing ‘til earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise high as the listening skies
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea!

The inspiring words of James Weldon Johnson’s Lift Every Voice and Sing, commonly referred to as the Negro National Anthem, have been a part of the repertoire of the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers for most of the ten years of our existence. These words, and those of the Negro Spirituals that we are committed to preserve, describe the path of enslaved peoples from their hopes and dreams in the early days of slavery in America, through the struggles of the Civil Rights movement, and remain relevant today in the continuing efforts to achieve social and economic justice. We are excited and inspired as we sing these words of trial, faith, and hope.

We rely on contributions from friends like you to keep our concerts free and open to all. We would be very grateful if you would use the enclosed form to send your tax-deductible gift to support our programs. If you cannot send a financial donation at this time, your presence at our concerts is another way of supporting high-quality, diverse, and inspiring choral music in our community, and we are indeed grateful to you.

We encourage you to visit our web site to obtain updated information about our performances and links to archive videos describing our organization and our May 2017 Concert on the Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Thank you so much for your past and continuing support of the DCJS!

Sincerely,

David A. Caughey, Tenor, and Board President of the DCJS
